STEM in Me Junior Courses | STEM and Robotic Class

Give your children the opportunity to participate in basic electronic circuitry concept projects in affordable STEM and Robotic Class delivered by Experienced Engineers! Increase their interest in Science, Mathematics, Technology and Engineering which are the key knowledge for future high impact careers. Children will learn and explore basic electronic circuit concept through solving day-to-day problems.

Especially relevant in STEM and Robotic Class, while role playing children will learn about basic electronic circuit concept using mPuzzle, a toy-like electronic components and illustrated story book. Children will also explore basic problem solving and develop common logic.

Choose from various different levels that suits children interest and experience with basic electronic circuit concept. Most noteworthy children WITHOUT any previous exposure to STEM or Robotic Class OR children WITH previous exposure to STEM and Robotic Class will have something new to learn and would be able to enjoy it at their own pace.

STEM in Me Junior Courses | STEM and Robotic Class Projects

In the STEM and Robotic Class, coaches will first introduce to the children the definition of STEM education. Then general approach of STEM education and the unique approach of STEM in Me in delivering STEM education. After the introduction, coaches will explain the day-to-day problem that children is going to solve.

Through cause-and-effect relationships, children learn to construct up to 12 different projects found in our everyday world, such as a street lamp that illuminates at dusk, or a TV remote control with a red LED light that shines when it’s turned on.

Then with the knowledge of basic electronic circuitry concept, children will explore are construct their own projects based on day-to-day problem that they face everyday. There will be presentation and game challenges for each child to proudly demonstrate their project prototype.

Finally, with the knowledge and skill, children then will built their own DIY Solar Robot project which they will take home.

Level 2 – Junior mPuzzle + DIY

Junior (Level 2) : mPuzzle + DIY

Coaches explains mPuzzle, a collection of easy-to-use, snap-together magnetic components that teaches basic electronic circuitry concepts. With mPuzzle, students come to understand how things work by seeing cause-and-effect relationships and outcomes. Coaches use a fun and engaging story book that is entertaining and includes helpful visualizations and animated characters kids can relate to, and, most importantly, understand.

In each session, coaches walks students through one by one all the 12 different stories and projects in mPuzzle: Flash Light, Kitty Alarm, Reflex Battle Game, Solar Fan, Desk Lamp, Magnet Detector, Remote Control LED, Solar Controlled Light, Buzzer Control, Personal Fan, Security Badge, Stop Light.

Then with the knowledge and skill gathered, coaches guide students to use battery, input components, output components and logic components to explore and construct their own projects based on day-to-day problem that they face everyday. 

In the end, coaches guides students and build their own DIY Solar Robot. Students see how the project they built operates and troubleshoots if there is any problem.

Level 2 – Rookie Silver Pass

Energy Efficient Fan

Silver Pass (Level 2): Energy Efficient Fan (EEF)

[Energy Efficient Fan: that we often waste energy at home by leaving the electrical appliances such as fan on even when we are not using it. On top of that, at times we wish there is a way to operate the fan without going all the way to the switch. Student will brainstorm for a device with features that can be a solution to this problem. Students’ brainstorm will finally conclude to build something like an energy efficient fan device]

Then, coaches will explain how electronic hardware and software programming technology devices and their features.  Coaches will introduce Microduino mCookie, an Arduino-compatible open source electronic hardware suitable as a STEM and Robotic education tools. Student will learn about electronic controller, power source, mechanical sensor (switch), light sensor, sound sensor (microphone) and electric motor output trinket.

Concurrent with the introduction to electronic hardware, coaches will introduce to the students Scratch, a software visual programming language suitable as a STEM and Robotic education tools. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. Besides that it being a visual based software programming language, helps introduce student to programming easily. Student will learn the basics of Mixly or Scratch for Arduino (S4A) or Snap for Arduino (Snap4Arduino). Student will also learn to read from mechanical sensor (switch), light sensor, sound sensor (microphone) and to control electric motor output trinket that are connected to Microduino mCookie modules.

Level 3 – Rookie Gold Pass

[Smart Home: embracing the technology to improve way of live, we often look at how our home can be made much smarter and at the same time provide security. Student will brainstorm for a device with features that can make the home a smart home with security system]

Then, coaches will explain how electronic hardware and software programming technology devices and their features.  Coaches will introduce Microduino mCookie, an Arduino-compatible open source electronic hardware suitable as a STEM and Robotic education tools. Student will learn about electronic controller, power source, mechanical sensor (switch), infrared receiver sensor, infrared remote control transceiver, grey level sensor (line finder), light sensor, buzzer output trinket, colour LED output trinket and electric motor output trinket.

[Smart Car: we often look at how we can improve efficiency in our daily life and business. One of the ways to achieve this is to use  automated machines. On top of that, at the same time the automated machine need to also be flexible to adapt to unplanned human control. This is prevalent in big warehouse operation where goods need to be moved in an efficient manner but the are times human need to have control over the machine movement. Student will brainstorm for a device that can automatically move from one location to another location without human intervention and has the ability to be remotely controlled]

Then, coaches will explain how electronic hardware and software programming technology devices and their features.  Coaches will introduce Microduino mCookie, an Arduino-compatible open source electronic hardware suitable as a STEM and Robotic education tools. Student will learn about electronic controller, power source, mechanical sensor (switch), infrared receiver sensor, infrared remote control transceiver, grey level sensor (line finder), buzzer output trinket, colour LED output trinket and electric motor output trinket.

Concurrent with the introduction to electronic hardware, coaches will introduce Arduino software platform, an open source programming language is based on C programming language that enables young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. Student will learn the basics of C programming syntax and libraries for enhance control logics. Student will also learn to read from mechanical sensor (switch), infrared receiver sensor, grey level sensor (line finder) and to control buzzer output trinket, colour LED output trinket and electric motor output trinket that are connected to Microduino mCookie modules.

Bronze Pass (Level 1) : Music Box

[Music Box: that we often have a music box to play a certain tune but we are unable to change the tune as we like. Student will brainstorm for a device that  can be a solution to this problem.  Students’ brainstorm will finally conclude to build a device like a music box device]

Then, coaches will explain how electronic hardware and software programming technology devices and their features.  Coaches will introduce Microduino mCookie, an Arduino-compatible open source electronic hardware suitable as a STEM and Robotic education tools. Student will learn about electronic controller, power source, mechanical sensor (switch), buzzer output trinket and colour LED output trinket.

Then, students will discuss on how they can integrate and build a prototype of the problem solution device. They will experience how Microduino mCookie modules, sensor and output trinkets assemble together with LEGO®-compatible building blocks. Next with basic guidance students will start to assemble and then explore their creativity using building material to build the device prototype.

Next, coaches will introduce Mixly, a software visual programming language suitable as a STEM and Robotic education tools. Mixly helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. Besides that it being a visual based software programming language, helps introduce student to programming easily. Student will learn the basics of Mixly. Student will also learn to read from mechanical sensor and light sensor, and actuate buzzer output trinket and colour LED output trinket that are connected to Microduino mCookie modules. Students will finally with guidance programme different control logics and operation parameters. Then operate and fulfil the project the device prototype features.
